Oily Skin

If you have taken our skin type quiz and figured out that you have Oily Skin, then you are in luck!! Please join us right here to get the full tour around your skin, how to care for it, treat it, pamper it and last but not least how to always keep it stunning.

* What is oily skin?

You might already know that oily skin is shiny, thick and dull colored. Not only that but oily skin often has coarse large pores and pimples and other embarrassing blemishes and it is also prone to blackheads. What actually causes oily skin is the oil producing sebaceous glands that are overactive and produce more oil than is needed. As a result the oil oozes and gives the skin a greasy shine.

Those were the disadvantages of oily skin but oily skin has the greatest advantage over all other skin types which is that it ages at a much slower rate. Oily skin is something of a blessing as it is slow to develop discolorations, fine lines, and wrinkles. Oily skin also usually tans beautifully, rather than just burning and turning red and it has less of a tendency to freckle.

* What causes oily skin?

When we think oily skin, the first thing that comes to our minds is teenagers. Oily skin is in fact more common in teenagers as a result of the hormonal shifts of adolescence but it can still occur at any age.

Even though oily skin is known to be the teenager’s thing, still don’t be surprised if you are thirty and you are still having it, it might simply be in your genes. Oily skin can be caused by a wide variety of factors, including genetics, fluctuating hormone levels (caused by pregnancy or birth control pills), dietary choices, certain cosmetics and hot, humid weather.

* Basic skin care for oily skin

The best advice for oily skin is to keep it clean at all times. This skin type benefits from cleansing two to maximum three times a day with a gentle cleanser using lukewarm water that works best to remove oils without stripping the surface of the skin.

Washing more often will only strip the skin of oil which simply revs up the oil glands to replace it. Using warm water loosens the dirt, and the use of cold water while rinsing thoroughly helps tone the skin. Finish off with a toner/ astringent on the oily areas of your skin. The astringent can be used throughout the day to help control the excess oil that appears. Seal the moisture into your skin by using a water based moisturizer for areas prone to dryness, such as around the eyes and mouth.

* Steam the oil up

Another great technique for cleansing the pores of an oily skin is to steam your face over hot water with a herbal infusion made of any of those herbs - Lemongrass, Licorice Root, And Rosebuds Burdock Root, Chamomile, Horsetail, Oat Straw and Thyme- for several minutes twice a week. This loosens the sebum in clogged pores and makes your skin look cleaner and more vital.

* Mud masks do wonders for oily skin

Since oily skin tends to be scaly, the use of a mask twice a week can be very helpful in cleansing the pores and removing dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. Clay masks or mud masks are worthwhile as they improve the feel and look of your skin by freeing the skin surface from greasiness. Generally, the darker brown the clay (mud), the more oil it can absorb. White or rose-colored clays, though, are gentler and work
best on sensitive skin.

* The magic of fruit acids

Fruit acids don't dissolve the oil, nor do they stop the skin from producing oil. Rather, they work on removing the top dead layer of skin and rigid oil. The pores when free from the deadly mix appear to shrink in size and the overall result is smoother skin that is less oily. The advantage of fruit acids is that it helps the skin to retain its moisture.

A mixture of lime and cucumber juice with a few drops of eau de cologne will keep the oil at bay and will also prevent acne. In fact a little cucumber juice only on the oily areas prevents make up from becoming patchy.

* Aromatherapy home remedies for Oily skin

Use 100% pure essential oils when making your own skincare with aromatherapy and you can choose from a wide variety of oils that are especially beneficial to oily skin – Cedar Wood, Clary Sage, Geranium, Lavender, Sandalwood, Tea Tree and Ylang-Ylang. DO NOT apply oils directly onto your skin - always mix into carrier oil for massage or add a few drops in a steam bath for facials and for maximum benefit use under a clay mask. The exceptions are Tea Tree or Lavender, which you can dab directly onto pimples to speed up healing.

* Common sense never hurts

If you find that frequent washing stimulates more oil production and irritates your skin, so please by all means use your own common sense and switch to cleaning your face with astringent pads during the day instead of frequently washing it. Use only water-based cosmetics if you have oily skin and look for products especially formulated for your skin type.

Diet probably has little, if anything, to do with whether or not you have oily skin but still healthy living habits can also improve the appearance and condition of oily skin. Supplementing your diet with vitamins A, B, C, E and zinc also promote healthy skin. Drinking six to eight glasses of water per day, regular exercise and sleep and avoiding cigarettes are good ways to have beautiful skin.

With a little extra attention, a tad of added care and squeeze of dedication, you can dramatically transform your unbearable agonizing oil factory into a glowing radiant and vibrant skin today and all the coming days.

Nail Salon Health Hazards

Nail salons use a wide variety of toxic chemicals that can cause cancer, respiratory disease, disorders of the nervous and reproductive systems, and skin damage.

The chemicals used in nail salons are not your 'everyday' chemicals. These are industrial strength chemicals that require regulations and education for their use.

If you regularly visit a nail salon or work in a nail salon, you could be at risk of developing a lung disease from inhaling the chemicals.

Getting a manicure or pedicure can put you at risk for developing skin allergy, either from the glues or some of the chemicals or developing a skin infection.

Treatment-resistant skin abscesses or boils on their lower legs were complained by people who had recently had a pedicure in one of the whirlpool foot bath chairs at a single salon.

These recliner-type chairs have an integral footbath with re-circulating water that reaches to just below the patron's knees.

Cultures of the [sick] women's legs and the foot bath filter screens have revealed that the screens had never been removed for cleaning, and tremendous amounts of hair, skin, and organic debris had built up.

Laboratory tests revealed massive amounts of the same unusual microbe Mycobacterium fortuitum in both the filter screens and patients' sores.

The biggest problem is what's known as nail fungus. It's a communicable disease. Another is ringworm.

Also, both the drills that are sometimes used, and cuticle pushing can damage the matrix of the nail, causing permanent loss or deformity,

Protection Guidelines:

•Make sure there are no instruments that are dirty lying around.

•Make sure that the place is licensed.

•You should ask questions to the staff as far as how their instruments are cleaned or what type of chemicals are used.

•Disposable items such as nonmetal supplies like toe spreaders and emery boards cannot be disinfected, so make sure new ones are used for each customer.

•Avoid cutting the cuticles. try to encourage your beautician to push back cuticles, because each time you cut, you open yourself to infection. Cuticles are there to protect you. The same with your feet as well.

•You can even bring your own instruments to the salon. Some doctors say that’s a way to avoid infection. If you don’t, make sure the tools are properly sterilized, and anything that’s not metal is used only once.

•Finally, if you notice a problem on your hands or feet, be sure to see your doctor.

Above all, play it safe.

Beauty Tips For Eyelashes

One of the pretty features of the eyes are the eyelashes. Most women try hard to get long, thick and full eyelashes. Taking care of eyelashes and maintaining them should be a routine.

Condition your eyelash by the time you sleep. Eyelashes tend to break easily when they get dry. Make it a point to remove your eye makeup before you get to bed. Remove your mascara from an eyelashes. Put some petroleum jelly on a little cotton swab and stroke it on your eyelashes gently. Another easy way is to hold the cotton swab and allow some butterfly kisses by fluttering your lashes for some seconds. For pretty, long lashes, applying castor oil before you sleep is advised.

To get a pretty, curled look, use an eyelash curler before applying a mascara. They always give you a natural look and when applied in the right manner, they allow no clumping of lashes.

Make sure you coat both the top and bottom of your eyelashes. Start by coating the eyelashes slightly with a powder, as this will help hold the mascara that you will apply. make sure you don't hold the mascara brush for long, instead, wiggle the brush to apply mascara. Apply on both top and cotton coats.

Men Advised Not To Wear Tight Jeans

There might be an urge amongst men of today to follow the ongoing trend of wearing tight-skin fitted jeans, but least have an idea that this fashion is actually putting them in trouble.

Medical experts as well as UK TV star Dr. Hilary Jones have warned that these jeans are hurting the most sensitive and important part of male, which also can ultimately make them infertile. They have cautioned that the jeans have a direct effect on testicles, which thus causes major testicular problems, including twist in testicles, weakness in bladder and also infection in the urinary tract.

Medical science cautions that twisted testicles is a major problem, which happens when spermatic cord does not have a free movement, thus causing a stress in testicles, which ultimately cuts off supply of blood. The condition needs to be operated immediately; else the testicle might get infected.

Nevertheless, wearing tight clothes have been directly linked to decline in sperm count and also fungal infections.

Dr. Jones have been reported to be collaborating with TENA, a maker of hygienic products for people with incontinence, on a specific project which aims at addressing people of risks they may have to face due to wearing of tight clothes.

What Do Women Really Want

By May Rostom

For years now men have been asking the same question of what do women want, but unfortunately they couldn’t reach an answer. Mel Gibson made a film about it, writers have written plenty of books about it and even Google suggests it when you only type 'what do' in the search tab, making it the most challenging question ever.

What bothers me is why do you want to know what women want? Is it to manipulate/win over the next girl you see, since you already know what she’s thinking or is it to learn how to treat your woman the 'right' way? Well, newsflash bro whatever your reasons are, women don’t know what women want! Shocking? Not really since no one knows what men want.

This question as baffling as it may seem is too obvious to be true, women want what men want.  Men hate drama queens, they hate it when girls fake emotions or twist the truth one way or another, and well so do women.

Women want an honest man that won’t give you the 'it’s not you, it’s me' crap and that won’t be afraid to reveal the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth which is 'I think I'm lost' or 'I cried when I watched Lost season finale'.

Men and women love eye-candy, something pretty to look at and smells delicious that’s why women think that if we spend 3 hours at the beauty parlor each week to groom ourselves for you, then you men should suffer as well taking care of your  hair, clothes, and teeth no matter how homosexual it may appeal to you.

Any man wants his wife to cook, clean, turn him on (despite smelling like Dettol from all the cleaning), represent him and his family elegantly, laugh quietly, take care of more than one person at a time (that being herself, her husband and her kids), work, manage the house and allowance, raise kids and above all this, they want a woman to listen and understand them even if they don’t say anything.

Again, so do women. They don’t want men to clean or cook, just appreciate it when she does or offer to help (thus sharing the responsibilities). They want a man that can make them feel unique, wanted, hot and sexy even if she isn’t. They want a man that is proud to show her off and that can represent her well.

Women want a confident man that exhibits confidence in public and handles difficult situations easily. Women want a man that can be funny and make them laugh (not one that pretends to be funny and laughs at his own jokes). They want a man to listen to them even they don’t have a solution to their problem, they want a loyal man that would never cheat, they want a mysterious bad boy that is sensitive at the same time (not a drama queen), they want an ambitious guy that is in control just not controlling, they want someone to appreciate, listen, respect, comfort, validate and hold them all the time.

Now if you’re a man reading this probably thinking 'jeez, women want A LOT of things', read the previous sentence again and you’ll find that this is exactly what you want from a woman (give or take a couple extras).

Men and women should stop trying too hard. Expectations from both sexes ruined whatever it is that men and women once understood about each other. Men are expected not to cry, know every street like the back of their hands, say AND do the right thing, hold the door for you, dress appropriately for every event, pamper you all the time and win over your friends and family.

To meet these expectations, men have transformed into aliens. Most of the time they don’t say what they really mean, they do stuff just because they think women will like it and they put on masks to impress you while in fact they totally disfigured their actual personalities and appearance becoming aliens to women (they don’t speak a language you can understand and they look like strangers from the outside).

All of these 'expectations' led to disfigurement of both men and women equally but unfortunately the disfigured women didn’t turn into aliens, they became a rubix cube! They're colorful, fun to play with, entertaining and boring at the same time, sometimes depressing and sometimes too hard to figure out.

Men and women need to start revealing their true personalities, they should run around naked (this btw is a metaphor!) proud of their own character, quirks and qualities which made them the person they are, they should stop expecting each other to become something they're not and most importantly they should stop trying to please each other rather than accepting their individuality.

Men and women alike want a happy/fun life, material possession, have someone to love and cherish, a sense of accomplishment, adventures, approval and ice-cream. So instead of wasting your precious time asking meaningless questions or pretending to be something you’re not, listen to your partner because they're probably sending out signals or telling you what they want.

As Shakespeare once said 'women speak two languages- one of which is verbal', learn to communicate with your partner by listening to what she says and by reading the signs she gives, this way you will know what women want or maybe even what YOU want.

Definition of Yourself !

By: Miral Osman

We go through a lot in our lives, when a moment could simply make us regret the past and neglect our existance. or could actually give us a reason of being there.

When you give in everything you've got and pause for a second, you realize that there's no come back. This is when you stop to question yourself: Is it you? or have you taken the wrong paths?

It takes only a moment, ONE moment could change it all.

The way we pursue happiness differs from one person to another. Some see it in their loved ones, children, family or a friend, some see it in acheivements as in work and money, others see it in tangable things as gifts, a good outing or a trip.

Its not about how you feel at the moment. Its about how much a certain moment could change your life for a while and that's when you reach a conclusion that you're HAPPY.

Never let a person take away your moment of please, because it always has to remain there to remind you of who you are and give you a reason to be alive.

Don't be afraid to change,as change won't always be to the worse.

Love (truely) with your heart and think (wisely) with your mind.

You should give in as much as you can ,but to an extent that doesn't change the beauty of who you really are. ( The beauty of YOURSELF ).

Eight Secrets to Feeling Happy

By: Liz Frost

A new book, Still 25 Inside by Lindsey Agness, reveals the eight secrets to feeling happy, healthy and fulfilled - whatever your age. Liz Frost takes a sneak peak.

Imagine feeling like you are 25-years-old - full of vitality, vigour and enthusiasm - for life. Author of Still 25 Inside, Lindsey Agness says, 'Our Attitudes are made up of what we believe about ourselves and what's important to us. Feeling good and enjoying life is a mindset that all of us can develop. You can make this choice at an emotional level (in terms of how you feel about yourself) and at a psychological level (in the way that you behave).

'Your chronological age is only a number. What really makes the difference is a positive state of mind - living a life that you're passionate about, and having fun. When you achieve these goals, a magical thing happens. You look and feel good, no matter what the year of your birth.'

In the book, Lindsay uses a mixture of no-nonsense advice, practical exercises and real life case studies to explore eight key 'Attitudes' that will help you feel young again. We asked her to give us a quick rundown...

Live your life on purpose

'The first Attitude, 'I live my life on purpose', is all about giving yourself permission to discover what you want to be, do or have with the rest of your life. It's important for each of us to have goals, but we often forget (or fail) to put aside the time to set them. It could be that you would like to travel to far-flung shores, learn a new sport, language or skill, meet new friends, volunteer, start up a website or a book club, or anything else you set your mind to. Or it could be something more drastic, like changing your relationship, career or where you live. This Attitude will help you focus on what you would like to achieve, and show you how to identify what you really want to change in your life.'

Create what you want (from the inside out)

'The mind and body are inextricably connected, so when we change on the inside, we automatically change on the outside. So often we depend on external 'things' to make us feel better. For example, when we have felt low or unhappy in the past we may have undertaken some 'retail therapy' to make us feel better. However, the feelings of pleasure that this type of thing encourages are normally short-lived. Why? Because we are relying on something 'external' to change the way we feel inside. Because we have tackled the symptom and not the root cause of why we felt bad in the first place. As a result, the effect is always temporary. In contrast, change on the inside is permanent because it's something over which you can take responsibility and control. If there's something you want to achieve, don't let the desire to make that first step 'perfect' hold you back, be prepared to make mistakes along the way and learn from them.'

Know who you are
This Attitude is all about finding out what you are passionate about, because doing so goes a long way towards helping you discover your sense of self - and thereby increasing your confidence and self-esteem. When we allow ourselves to discover what we are passionate about, we experience the triumph of love and hope over fear. Remember the last time you felt real passion? That was the real you. If it was more than a month ago, you've got some work to do!

As a first step, keep a diary of your key activities. For example, record how much time you spend on each of the following: quality time with your family, quality time with your partner, leisure activities, work, housework, friends, fitness, and focused time for yourself. Then ask yourself if you are happy with the results. What do they say about you at the moment? Do they begin to define who you are in a way that you'd like to be defined? Is your focus where it ought to be? And if it isn't, which areas would you like to devote more or less of your time to? Set yourself some goals and begin to rebalance your time.'

Be true to yourself

'In order to be true to ourselves, we need to discover what our values are. Our values are instilled in us at an early age, most often before the age of seven. At this age our surroundings are imprinted upon us with little of our own filtering. For example, our values will be influenced by the values of our parents, close family, environment, school, and everything and everyone else that touches our lives.

'Our values determine the way we think and how we behave. If you want to find out what your values are, then ask yourself what was important to those around you when you were growing up. It's likely that you have adopted many of their values. However, before you start to panic at the thought of having adopted your parents' values, it's also important to understand that our values change and can be changed.

'If you are a parent, I guarantee that on the day your first child was born your values will have changed. This happens unconsciously. Other times in our lives when our values are likely to change include marriage, divorce, bereavement, redundancy, retirement, illness and so on. Discover your values and be true to them and you will feel instantly better about your life.'

Believe you are good enough

'This Attitude explores how to change limiting beliefs or fixed ideas that we have about ourselves. Everyone has them; the good news is they can be changed! Our beliefs are views or ideas we have about ourselves, other people and situations that we hold to be true. Like our values, our beliefs are formed during the imprint period, before the age of seven.

'We collect beliefs from those closest to us at that time, such as parents, teachers, close family and any other important people in our lives. The most important thing to understand about beliefs is that they are generalisations that we create from life experiences. Most of us do not consciously decide what we believe. Furthermore, once we have a belief we forget that it can be changed, and it becomes our reality. We rarely challenge our long-held beliefs and they become a filter through which we sieve all of our life's expectations and experience.

'So, if you don't believe you're good enough, then you'll filter all your experiences through that belief until you only notice the times this is true, rather than noticing all the times you were successful or even more than good enough. The bottom line? Believe that you are good enough and you will be.'

Like yourself

'Believe it or not, the key to learning to respect yourself and feeling in harmony with your body is healthy eating. However, in order to eat healthily, it is important to create the mindset necessary for healthy eating. Let's face it - we women have an ongoing affair with food. We love it and we hate it. We starve ourselves and then we binge to make ourselves feel better. We go on crash diets and then we eat to suppress negative feelings in our lives. We equate it with love, yet we often simply feed others instead of telling them how much we love them.

'So, how do we create the right mindset to look after and respect our bodies? Firstly, we need to reframe the way we see our bodies. Instead of seeing them as less than perfect, or even ugly, it's essential to see them as the means through which we will achieve our life's purpose. We need to treat our bodies with love and respect, and regard food and meals as a way of providing them with the nourishment they require to support us on our journey.

'Any self-criticism will leave our bodies struggling to support us to be the best we can be. We must be ready to praise ourselves, and start being kind about every part of our bodies, knowing that any degrading thoughts will leave our bodies struggling. Our bodies give us strength to achieve our goals and, in return, we need to truly love and respect them for the amazing tools that they are.'

Take time for yourself

'This Attitude is all about time. Do you embrace time as your friend or your enemy? Are you someone who often says, 'I don't have time for that'? If you are someone who experiences time as a scarce commodity, of which there is never enough, then you are creating a completely different personal reality from someone who perceives that they have all the time in the world.

'Maybe you have even experienced some of the symptoms of stress such as breathlessness, panic attacks and high blood pressure. Deepak Chopra, the world-famous Indian medical doctor and author, wrote of an Indian master, who explained his remarkably youthful appearance thus: 'Most people spend their lives either in the past or the future, but my life is supremely concentrated in the present.' This is because those who live in the past often suffer from guilt, and those who worry about the future often suffer from anxiety. However, if you live in the present you can focus on enjoying the moment, whatever you are doing. This has a more relaxing impact on the body.'

Be certain of your success

'What if we could predict that everything we programmed into your future was going to happen, just as everything in the past has already happened? In other words, what if you could be as sure of the future as you are of the past? The upshot?

'Still 25 Inside is intended to make you probe deeper into who you really are and what you want for yourself. The way to transform our lives is to learn to see ourselves for who we really are, and let our true selves flourish and grow. By discovering ourselves and reaching our own potential, we also give the greatest gift to everyone around us - our children, our families and the world at large. We become a role model for others to follow, as they see in us what is possible for them. To achieve this we need to learn to suppress our own doubts and excuses so that our true nature can shine through.'

10 Things to Make Your Relationship Better

Romance is a very small part of what makes a long-term relationship successful, it’s getting the other 98 percent right that makes a couple last in the long haul. It’s too bad we don’t have any days devoted to issues like communication, fighting fairly, and forgiving. Relationship change requires behavior change, and this is far from easy. Fortunately there are certain, very specific things you—yes, you—can do over the year that may change your relationship for the better. Very often you’ll find that your partner quickly and enthusiastically reciprocates, and the entire dynamic of your relationship changes. Focus on the following ten steps and transform your good (or so-so or maybe even deeply troubled) relationship into a great relationship:

Ask yourself: Would I rather be right…or would I rather be happy?

She doesn’t load the dishwasher the right way, you leave your socks on the bedroom floor, and she keeps squeezing the toothpaste tube in the middle. And these little, everyday toilet-seat-up-or-down issues are just the tip of the iceberg. Couples argue over almost everything—and some do. In order to have a successful relationship, both partners need to accept that we all have our different ways of doing things. What’s more, you both need to realize that accepting those differences is a key to a peaceful relationship. No one wants to be micromanaged, especially in their own home. If you just want to be right and prove your point on everything, your relationship is likely to fail. The fact is that often, there isn’t a right or a wrong way, just different ways. Assuming that yours is the right—and only—way is arrogant and disrespectful. Think about the big picture. Does it really matter how chores are done or is this really just about control?

Master the fine art of communication.

It sounds so simple: she speaks, you listen; and vice versa. But it’s actually more complex than it sounds. Communication is at the root of the problems faced by almost every couple I’ve ever seen. Gender differences, contrasting thinking styles, and different personalities can all make communication inside a relationship especially difficult. If you can learn to communicate effectively with your partner, you are well on your way to a successful and happy partnership and also a better night’s sleep for the both of you. The biggest mistake that couples make is not realizing the need to create an environment that allows their partner to talk freely about their thoughts and feelings. If your wife doesn’t reveal too much about herself, it may be that she is not very skilled at doing that—or it may be that every time she tries to tell you something she gets shot down. People simply won’t talk if they think they are going to get criticized in some way. Be respectful and listen. You may not understand or agree but you should always respect your partner’s right their viewpoint.

Learn to fight fair.

You’ve probably heard that couples argue most about Sex and Finances. But are these disputes really about sex and money or are they about something else? Emotional discussions by their very nature are about more important underlying issues, like trust, control, or jealousy. It’s just that money and sex are the currency of control in many relationships; how you handle these conflicts will determine whether the underlying problem is exacerbated or resolved. So how do you fight fair? Well, there are some guidelines: calling time-outs when things get too heated, never fighting in front of anyone else, not dragging unnecessary skeletons out of the closet, and so forth; but for the most part, fighting fair means trying to solve the issue rather than trying to tally up who’s better than who when it comes to you and your partner. Try to abandon the usual strategy of trying to win at all costs. Instead, work toward a productive resolution that you can both accept.Commit, already. (And no, it has nothing to do with a wedding ring!)

Commitment is the glue that keeps a relationship together and yet most people haven’t a clue what the word 'Commitment' really means. They think in terms of marriage licenses or sexual fidelity, but real commitment goes beyond what goes on behind closed doors and wedding bands. The truth is, you can be totally faithful to your partner but still not be committed to the relationship. Commitment really means that you consider the other person in all matters—you consider how any action you might take affects your partner and the relationship. This does not mean that you will always make personal decisions secondary to your relationship, It does mean, however, that you make every effort to consider the impact of your actions and treat the relationship and your partner with fairness, respect, and without harm. Various studies have shown commitment to be a predictor of long-term marital happiness and stability.

Be trustworthy.

In a solid relationship, you need to be able to make the assumption that your 'other half' is telling you what you need to know and doing what they say they’re doing; and the feeling needs to be 100% mutual. That’s what trust means. It isn’t just about fidelity, It’s about trusting that your partner will respect you, be honest with you (which includes avoiding secretive behavior and 'lies of omission'), and not hurt you. Do not break trust with your partner. Lack of trust is corrosive. It eats away at the very fabric of a relationship and leads to disillusion and dissolution. Once trust has been broken, it is very difficult, often impossible, to regain it. Even a gullible person will wise up eventually to an untrustworthy partner. In order to make this part of your relationship better, you must learn how to deal with anger and conflict. If you, as a couple, can manage anger and disputes, then both of you are less likely to resort to lies and deceit to avoid confrontation.

Learn how to share unconditionally.

This is much harder than it sounds. People are not very good at sharing. We fight hard for ownership and refuse to let it go once we have it. In fact, sharing is so foreign to most of us that we give up something only because we hope that giving up something we love will be beneficial for us in return. And that’s not sharing at all—it’s trading. We all want unconditional love and yet we find it very difficult to give ourselves unconditionally and yet, successful relationships do require sacrifice. Someone has to give up something from time to time—whether it’s something big like a career or a hometown or something small like acquiescing to your partner on her choice of restaurant. Try giving your partner an unconditional surprise at least once a week. Do it without expecting anything in return. And if you’ve been holding out on giving up on something, consider letting it go. You may be surprised at just how good it makes both of you feel.

Nurture your partner’s dreams and goals.

In a nutshell, nurturing your partner means accepting their independence and doing whatever you can to encourage it. If your inclination is to be with your partner 24/7 and control their every move, you really need to take a step back and learn to be a self-sufficient, independent human being. What you are doing is the opposite of nurturing and is no way you can have a healthy relationship if you don’t stop. On the other hand, if you’re failing to nurture your partner because you don’t know what their goals, dreams, and aspirations are, you simply need to ask. Then, devise three ways that you could assist in the realization of those goals. It can be a total game changer for your relationship.Forget the roses.

Flying to Florida and boarding the cruise ship is not a romantic interlude if you then spend all your time in the casino and she becomes irremovably attached to the spa. Romance is, above all, about making your partner feel special, and you can do that only by paying attention. It will cost than time and staying in doors for awhile, which shouldn’t be a problem. It is all too easy in the mayhem of everyday life not to make time for romance. In the heady stages of the early infatuation, romance was natural and an essential priority. However, as the relationship matures, you have to go out of your way to make sure that romance occurs at all. Without special attention and time alone together, intimacy will disappear. Realize that romance can happen at anytime, anywhere if you make it happen.

Embrace the F-word: forgiveness.
In the course of your most intimate relationship, conflicts and major disagreements will occur. But one of the secrets of a successful relationship is ensuring that these muddy waters of disenchantment and anger don’t inevitably harden into bricks of resentment. To steer away, quickly, from resentment, you need to accept two facts that many couples struggle with:

• you cannot control another person unless they let you.

• Sometimes you have to give up, or modify, your dreams.

Unless you come to terms with these facts, you are going to have a rough time being successful in any close relationship. If you carry around resentment, you are the one who really suffers from the stress of the anger and frustration.

Don’t make an 'ass' out of 'u' and 'me.' (Don’t assume!)

Do you really understand your partner? Or do you at least think you do? One of our most important life skills is the ability to monitor our own instant judgments and automatic perceptions and measure them against reality. We all project our interpretations about others’— especially our partner’s— behavior. But such projections are a problem because most of the time we’re wrong or missing some important detail. Learn to resist your natural tendency to interpret your partner’s behavior. Instead, actually talk to her to find out what’s really going on. This is a crucial (and underused) relationship skill. Asking, instead of assuming, will result in a much more peaceful environment and trying to find out what your partner is really thinking and feeling and respecting it is a true act of love.

A good relationship shouldn’t take a ton of hard work. However, it does take a certain amount of reflection, self-control, compromise, and vigilance. You can’t just do what you want to do all the time and expect to be happy in your partnership. However, the time you put into creating and maintaining a healthy relationship is worth the effort.

PAIN

By May Rostom

Pain. Pain hurts. Pain breaks us into two. Pain kills us a little everyday and there’s nothing we can do. Pain shapes us, transforms us into people we thought we’d never be or sometimes people we always wanted to be.

Pain seeps into our lives suddenly, when we least expect it. Pain tricks us into thinking that we can’t take it anymore or that our skin isn’t thick enough to endure it.

Pain cuts through us like a butcher’s knife and we let it. We feed our pain. We listen to sad songs, hold on to memories, watch depressing movies and run towards pain knowing that this is how it’ll all end; tears, sleepless nights, and scars we bury deep. Death, a lost love, distance, abandonment, and a lot more bring us to our knees praying to have the strength to get up again.

After every blow we take, we promise ourselves we’d never give in to the pain again, but as the days go by and as we meet more beautiful people, experience life further, and choose to become who we are today, we risk getting hurt. We risk being vulnerable, we risk inflicting pain on ourselves but then again we talk ourselves into it like we can handle the consequences. Like we’re superman, pain is nothing to us. Like regrets don’t exist and like scars are teachers in disguise. Like a little kid learning to ride a bike, falling down and getting up again till they get it right, pain pushes us forward; pain makes us appreciate peace of mind.

Pain makes us appreciate wholeness of the heart, pain makes us appreciate our lives and it makes us appreciate ourselves for getting out of every painful experience whole again. Even when we’re missing a piece, we tell ourselves that this was meant to be, that pain was destined to happen, that pain taught us a lesson we had to learn the hard way!

Dear pain,

Thank you for making me the beautiful person that I am. Thank you for teaching me everything I know. Thank you for showing me that God is just a prayer away. Thank you for turning my weaknesses into strengths, my precious moments into memories, my heart into a beating drum, my eyes into a well, and my body into a castle that holds a wealth of stories on every corner.

Right now, all I can do is kiss you goodbye, because what I’m sure of is that from his wounds, an oyster builds a pearl.

Sincerely,

Broken down, but getting up again!
